Easter Dress

This post is about a month behind lol

I don't know about you, but growing up Easter was a big deal in my house! It was like Christmas, my mom would pull out our Easter basket, we'd dye eggs and put them in the basket at night before bed. In the morning they'd be filled with candy and little toys.

My mom would make each of us, herself included, an Easter dress we would wear to church Sunday morning. Then afterwards we would go home and she would make a big feast and invite over our closest family friends.

As a new wife and mother creating our own traditions is a part of this new life if ours. I want my Baby to have that same level of joy and excitement for Easter. That being said my first thought, was to make her a dress lol.

I started with this McCall's 6853 pattern, I was looking for a small cotton strawberry print fabric. To match a dress I already owned. (I have not reached my mother's level yet where I can do all kinds of sewing in a short amount of time )

I really only needed a yard I figured close enough! I only needed a 1 yard but there was a remnant so I took that as well. I also got a red gingham fabric for the bloomers.

View A:

I opted for view A because I wanted the short boomers and a less puffy sleeve. I did want the sleeves to be shirt though so I cut them.

I skipped the collar but kept the bodice the same. I wanted a tired skirt so I cut the in half and added 4 inches to the bottom half before gathering it into the top half.

I don't think I made the bottom tier full enough. If I were to do it again I'd add 8 inches to the bottom tier.

You may recognize these snaps from my post Purl Jumper, they're not very good, and pop open all the time, but I want to use them up.

The bloomers were really easy I just followed the directions. I did make my own bias tape because Joann's is no more 😔.

I think the bloomers came out really cute and add a nice touch.

And there you have it! Baby Girl's got a new dress for Easter. Here she is wearing it.

And here we are as family at church on Easter Morning.

Now for my thoughts on Pattern, I absolutely love it, it's an easy pattern to follow, and easy pattern to alter, I think it's great for beginners and seasoned sewers. The back does have a placket, or you could cut on the selvedge like I did and make a back seam.

The pattern has you close up the back with buttons, but I did, snaps so no buttonholes required.

All in all I highly recommend this pattern if you're sewing for Baby!

That's all for this week! Happy Easter! Happy Fashion Friday! Happy Sewing, I'll see you all soon!
