Mother's Day is around the corner and to celebrate I wanted to make something inspired by my mother. The picture above is a pattern that my mother had, one of my very first sewing projects we did together was make view 1, it wasn't my size so we graded it up (that was before I knew how to grade) and I still have the dress to this day. Not sure I can squeeze into it though lol.
This weeks fabric was a two-way stretch Velour. Missing its fiber content but safe to say its a Polyester/ Spandex blend. I measured it out, turned out to be 2 3/4 yards which meant I had plenty to work with!
I really, really wanted to make the pattern above, but as it is discontinued and even though I searched the interweb I couldn't find a pattern so I had to improvise. If you follow me on instagram I posted some pics to my story of me draping the front of this. For the bottoms I pulled out an old favorite some very wide leg trousers.
I actually had to sew the top twice, things I had difficultly getting it to lay flat, but once I'd figured that part out, the pants went easily and the whole thing came together.

When it came to the back I knew I wanted two things for sure. I wanted a low back (my favorite!) and an extra long neck tie, I just liked the idea of a long tie going down my back! I just couldn't help myself on that front.
I know its a little dramatic and unnecessary but the ties are in my opinion the best part of this thing!
I really love my mother, and I miss her like crazy, I just wanted to make something that would remind me of her. This look can be purchased in my shop under "One Offs" but as there's only one, once its gone, its gone!
